Prenatal Massage Therapy
What is prenatal massage?
Prenatal massage is a specialized form of massage therapy designed to cater to the unique needs of pregnant women. This therapeutic practice uses gentle techniques to alleviate discomfort, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being during pregnancy. This type of massage is a powerful tool that can significantly improve the pregnancy experience by offering relief from common pregnancy-related discomforts such as back pain, leg cramps, and fatigue. Our skilled therapists are trained to use a variety of techniques, including effleurage and petrissage, to ensure a comfortable and beneficial session for expectant mothers. We invite you to experience the soothing and restorative benefits of prenatal massage, tailored to your specific needs and circumstances.
Why is prenatal massage important?
Prenatal massage is not merely a way to pamper expectant mothers—it’s a vital component of prenatal care geared toward enriching the overall health and wellness during pregnancy. Engaging in prenatal massage can be instrumental in managing the myriad of pregnancy-related discomforts. Beyond easing the common complaints like backaches, swollen joints, and muscular tension, it’s a natural, drug-free avenue for alleviating symptoms, bolstering relaxation, and fostering a serene mind-body connection.
More than just addressing physical discomfort, prenatal massage is a beacon of tranquility for expectant mothers. It can diminish stress, elevate spirits, and contribute to more restorative sleep—factors that are all too important during this transformative chapter in a woman’s life. At the heart of Life Force Chiropractic’s care, prenatal massage is regarded as a cherished self-care ritual that truly enhances the prenatal journey, transforming it into a period of comfort and joy.
Who can benefit from prenatal massage?
Prenatal massage can be beneficial for all pregnant women, offering a host of advantages that can improve the pregnancy experience. Whether you are in your first trimester or nearing your due date, prenatal massage can provide much-needed relief from discomfort and stress. However, it’s important to consult with your healthcare provider before starting prenatal massage, especially if you have a high-risk pregnancy. At Life Force Chiropractic, we understand that each pregnancy is unique. That’s why we tailor our prenatal massage services to each client’s specific needs and circumstances, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and beneficial experience.
When is the best time to start prenatal massage?
Prenatal massage can be started at any stage of pregnancy, but it’s always best to consult with your healthcare provider before beginning any new therapeutic practice. Regular prenatal massage sessions can provide continuous benefits throughout your pregnancy, helping you to manage discomfort, reduce stress, and maintain a positive mood. We recommend starting prenatal massage as soon as you feel comfortable, and continuing with regular sessions for the most beneficial results.
The Benefits of Prenatal Massage
Reduced stress and anxiety
One of the key benefits of prenatal massage is its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. Studies have shown that massage therapy can decrease levels of stress hormones, promoting relaxation and a sense of calm. Pregnancy can be a time of heightened emotions and stress, and prenatal massage offers a holistic approach to managing these feelings. At Life Force Chiropractic, personalized prenatal massage sessions are designed to help you relax, unwind, and navigate your pregnancy journey with less stress and anxiety.
Relief from muscle aches and joint pains
Pregnancy can bring about a variety of physical discomforts, including muscle aches and joint pains. Prenatal massage uses gentle, effective techniques to target these areas of discomfort, providing relief and promoting physical well-being. This non-invasive, natural approach to pain management can be a valuable part of your prenatal care regimen. Our goal is to make your pregnancy as comfortable as possible. Our skilled therapists are dedicated to providing effective, personalized prenatal massage that targets your specific areas of discomfort, helping to alleviate pain and enhance your physical comfort throughout your pregnancy.
Improved blood circulation
During pregnancy, maintaining vibrantly healthy blood circulation is pivotal. It’s like ensuring that the river nurturing the landscape of life inside you flows abundantly and peacefully. Prenatal massage is a gentle whisper to your body, coaxing your blood vessels to dance to a rhythm that brings life-giving oxygen and nutrients to both you and your baby. Think of it as a duet between therapist and circulation, where swelling is eased, and body functions harmonize, creating a symphony of well-being for two. Here at Life Force Chiropractic, each prenatal massage is a crafted experience, respecting and enhancing this vital flow with the gentlest of touches, safeguarding the tranquility of your gestational journey.
Better sleep and mood
Getting quality sleep and maintaining a positive mood can be challenging during pregnancy, but prenatal massage can help. By reducing discomfort and promoting deep relaxation, prenatal massage may contribute to improved sleep quality. The stimulation of specific pressure points has been shown to positively influence the body’s sleep regulation hormones. Furthermore, the gentle, nurturing touch of a prenatal massage can activate the body’s relaxation response, which might alleviate the common stressors affecting mood during pregnancy.
Through a peaceful ambiance and caring touch, prenatal massage can help combat mood swings and promote a sense of well-being by fostering the release of endorphins — our natural feel-good hormones. Regular sessions may result in a more balanced emotional state, which is precious for both mother and baby. At Life Force Chiropractic, our prenatal massage services not only address physical discomfort but also support your emotional health. We dedicate ourselves to helping you embrace a more peaceful slumber and fostering a happier, more stable mood during this beautiful chapter of your life.
Safety and Precautions of Prenatal Massage
First Trimester Precautions
During the early stages of pregnancy, your body is embarking on an incredible journey of transformation. As the first trimester unfolds, your little one is taking their very first steps in what will be a marvelous adventure of growth. It’s during this delicate phase that we wrap you in an extra layer of tenderness and care.
Why, you might wonder, is this time so wrapped in caution? Well, the first trimester is a foundational chapter in your pregnancy narrative—imagine it as setting the stage for all the magical developments yet to come. Because of this, it’s essential to tread gently, especially when it comes to prenatal massage. Certain strokes and pressures that are usually comforting may now require modification or even a brief pause to honor the intricate dance happening within you.
Before you nestle into the soothing hands of a prenatal massage, having a heart-to-heart with your healthcare provider is a soothing step. They’re your co-authors in your pregnancy story, your guides in ensuring that each chapter unfolds with your health and that of your tiny budding life as the paramount concern.
At Life Force Chiropractic, we are your allies, echoing your dedication to safety and individualized attention. Our hands are not just tools of healing—they are gentle guides, attuned to the whispers of your body and the life within. Health conditions that may affect prenatal massage
Certain health conditions, such as hypertension or a history of pre-term labor, may require modifications to prenatal massage. Sharing your complete medical history with your massage therapist is essential to ensuring a safe and beneficial experience. At Life Force Chiropractic, we prioritize your well-being by considering your health history when creating a personalized prenatal massage plan. Our skilled therapists are adept at adjusting massage techniques to meet your specific needs, promising a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic session for every mother-to-be.
Choosing a certified prenatal massage therapist
When the nurturing touch of a prenatal massage beckons, ensuring the hands that greet you are both skilled and knowledgeable is paramount. The delicate dance of pregnancy demands a massage therapist who isn’t just well-versed in the general art of massage, but one who has a specialized training in prenatal techniques. This means they recognize the unique needs and precautions necessary to cradle both you and your little one in safety and comfort. As you embark on this quest, seek out a therapist adorned with certifications in prenatal massage—this assures they’ve been trained specifically for the maternal journey. Avail yourself to reviews or testimonials from other mothers; their satisfied whispers are a lull through the grapevine of trust. Our sanctuary at Life Force Chiropractic brims with therapists whose certifications in prenatal massage are not just a badge of honor but a promise – to cherish and safeguard your well-being through the tender months of creation. Frequently Asked Questions
No, it is extremely important to complete a full health consultation, spinal assessment, and any needed diagnostic x-rays prior to any adjustments in our office. This allows our doctors a chance to best understand your current health status and health goals to ensure they can help you before they begin delivering chiropractic adjustments. The consultation, assessments, and any needed x-rays are the pieces of information our doctors need to determine the timeline and frequency of care they would recommend for you if they determine our office can best help you.
This is a loaded question with many variables, as every patient is different depending on factors such as: age, previous health history, past traumas, current health concerns, health goals, lifestyle choices, amount of stress you experience, willingness to commit to your appointments, willingness to complete given stretches/exercises at home, etc. In all individuals, healing takes time and repetition but how much time and repetition depends on the factors listed above. Our first two visits with a patient allow our team to collect the necessary information to provide the most accurate timeline possible for optimal healing based on that individual person and their needs.
Visit frequency and timeline for corrective or wellness care are determined based on a detailed health history consultation to establish the patient’s current needs and future health/lifestyle goals. We have seen patients as frequently as 3x/week and as seldom as every other week, depending on the consultation, assessments, and x-ray findings. The first two visits in our office allow our team and doctors to collect the necessary information to provide the most accurate care plan for your specific needs and desires for care.
There are different service fees for different phases of care whether a patient is in corrective care or wellness care. Corrective care is a higher cost in the beginning, as more services are often needed to create desired results and optimal healing based on the initial health consultation, assessments, and x-rays. Wellness care is less costly, as these patients are choosing a lifestyle difference by receiving chiropractic care for overall well-being and prevention. Wellness care cannot be received until corrective care is complete, as corrective care is when patients are typically symptomatic and many have never seen a chiropractor before. The initial visit in our office allows our team to collect the necessary information to determine if and how we can best help your current health needs and desires, as well as identify if the patient needs corrective care or wellness care. The initial visit in our office is $97 which includes the report of findings at the second visit from what the doctors found from the initial visit and your specific care plan needs in our office (corrective or wellness, number of adjustments, frequency of care, needed at home instructions, progress re-exams, etc.). Adjustment costs range from $24-$70 depending on the amount of time the doctor will need to spend with the patient to make the needed adjustments and largely depending on the patient’s phase of care (corrective care is more costly than wellness care because more is needed from the doctor to make the desired health changes with the patient). Progress exams and x-rays are services our patients receive throughout the course of their care (corrective or wellness) to ensure they are continuing to heal and adapt at the highest levels with the best frequency and at-home recommendations. Progress exams and x-rays vary in costs depending on the specific service needed as they range from $35-$70.
Our office accepts most major insurances including (Medicare Part B, BlueCross BlueShield, Providence, Aetna, United Healthcare, Cigna, Insurances in the First Choice and American Specialty Health Networks, and a long list of others that typically fall under the supervision of one of the insurances listed above). There are a few insurance companies that we know we are not contracted with including: Humana, Apple Health, and Kaiser (unless it is supervised by First Choice Health). We are contracted with Molina, but only receive authorization for specific patients depending on many variables that are established by the insurance company including: patient findings and diagnosis, patient needs for care services, age of the patient, distance the patient lives from our office and how many other contracted providers are within that area, etc. Insurance companies all have specific plans and policies, chosen by the patient, therefore every individual is different when it comes to their personal costs, responsibilities and covered services within our office. Insurance can be helpful to decrease overall costs, but does not cover 100% of care. Therefore, we provide a complimentary benefits check of each patient’s insurance after we have completed the initial appointment in our office (detailed health consultation, spinal assessment, and any needed diagnostic x-rays) in order to provide all needed information to the insurance company for the most accurate benefit details and coverage specifically within our office. This allows us to provide all financial information, including services covered by insurances during our second visit when we present the patient with our doctor’s findings and recommendations for care in our office.
Depending on the patient’s health consultation, age of the patient, and specific case, our doctors will determine the specific x-rays needed to make the best recommendations for the person’s needs. X-Rays allow our doctors to see the overall curvature or loss of, if there is any degeneration present or loss of disc spaces between the spinal vertebrae. If x-rays are determined necessary, our doctors take a special series called the 4-View Motion Study to help identify the exact number of subluxations and lack of spinal motion that creates many health concerns.
The first two visits last 30-45 minutes in total. Then, most appointments last 15 minutes, as the adjustment itself only requires 3-4 minutes of time to find and correct the vertebral subluxation that creates nervous system dysfunction within the patient’s body.
Yes, our doctors are a part of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) and love making sure the little ones get the care they need.
Yes, prenatal care is an important part of an expecting mother’s healthcare. Our doctors are trained in the Webster’s Technique that specifically focuses on helping realign a mother’s pelvis and releasing tension on the round ligament that holds the baby in the uterus. Chiropractic care can be a safe and effective way for an expecting mother to decrease pain and discomfort.
Our doctors work alongside one another to serve all of our patient clientele. From reviewing healthy history and health goals to reading diagnostic x-rays, our doctors work together to determine if they can help you reach your desired health goals.
Many of the VA centers have a specific chiropractor or chiropractic office that they work with. Veterans have different coverage types and payment agencies. Although our office previously worked with those agencies to help get patient’s care covered, that is no longer the case.
Yes, we have worked with numerous patients following their car accidents. There are a few details that the patient must provide in order for our office to properly serve an auto accident patient to ensure the auto insurance company covers the care the patient needs. The information the patient must provide includes: the date and details of the auto accident, the auto insurance company responsible for payment of services, the claim number of the case, and the medical adjuster’s name and telephone number who is handling the bodily injuries sustained from the accident.
